iPhone X Common Faulty Chips For Repair

iPhone X was announced in 2017, September 12.

Up to the present, around 4 years passed. Because of the aging, dropping, water damage, etc., there are more and more defective cell phones back in the after-sale market.

Based on the real repair cases, let’s have a look at the iPhone X common faulty chips.

1. The bonding pads between the two layers of the motherboard

Since iPhone X, Apple import the dual-layers PCB design which makes the PCB more integrated and saved more space for the battery and cameras, but this also brings some risk of PCB damage.

For example, when the phone drop gets damaged, the pads between two layers get poor soldering/connection more easily. The same goes for the water damage, when the phone drop into the water, pads between the PCB also get corrosive more easily.

So most of the issues can be fixed by resoldering the two layers of the motherboard.

It’s important to handle the skill of desoldering the two layers of the motherboard when we do iPhone X and above model repair.

2. USB IC

The nickname of this chip: Hydra

Same as we introduced in iPhone 7 circuits, the USB IC in the iPhone X circuit also plays the role of gatekeeper.

Which will monitor whether the inputted voltage is valid or not.

So it also has a high failure rate when the phone gets charged improperly or used for a long time.

3. Charging IC

Part Number: SN2501/ U3300

Compatible for: iPhone 8/8P/X

The nickname of this chip: Tigris

Charging issue is always one of the most common issues, and normally it’s caused by the charging IC itself gets poor soldering or damaged.

4. Touch Controller IC

Part Number: LM3373A1YKA/ U5600

Compatible for: iPhone X/XS/XS Max

The nickname of this chip: ACORN 

5. Wireless Charging IC

Part Number: BC59355A2/ U3400

Compatible for: iPhone 8/8P/X/XS/XS Max/XR

The nickname of this chip: Iktara

For the wireless charging issues, if it’s not caused by the accessories. Then there’s a high chance it’s caused by the wireless charging IC get damaged.

Separate the two layers of the motherboard first, then get the wireless charging IC replaced with a new one.

6. Audio CODEC IC

Part Number: CS42L75/ 338S00248 U4700

Compatible for: iPhone 8/8P/X/XS/XS Max/XR

The nickname of this chip: CALLAN AUDIO CODEC 

7. SPK/earpiece/Vibrator Amplifier IC

Part Number: CS35L26C/ 338S00296 (U4900/U5000/U5100)

Compatible for: iPhone 8/8P/X

8. Wi-Fi Module

Part Number: LBEE5W11KN / 339S00399 (UWLAN_W)

Compatible for: iPhone 8/8P/X

The Wi-Fi chip for the Qualcomm version and the Intel version should be compatible.

When it’s necessary to replace the Wi-Fi chip with a new one, please use the P10 Programmer to unbind the connection between the Wi-Fi module and the NAND flash chip.

9. Camera PMU

Compatible for: iPhone 8/8P/X

iPhone X with three rear camera modules, front and face ID modules. Most of the camera functions require power from the Camera PMU IC, and take pictures is one of the most common use functions, so the camera PMU is always work in high load status, and easy to get damaged.

Apart from the above-mentioned chips, the Face ID PMU IC, Flash LED ICs, PMU, etc., also have a high failure rate.
