Recently we noticed some complaints about MacBook air\u00a0black screen issue during system boot.<\/p>\n

Instead of a traditional blue screen, the MacBook air is booting to a completely black screen with the initial “chime” sound.<\/p>\n

And keyboard backlights are also on.<\/p>\n

Which means the MacBook is on, well supplied by power and runs normally, and you just can\u2019t see that it is.<\/p>\n

Our previous post How To Fix MacBook Pro Won\u2019t Turn On\u00a0explained some kind of power-related issue that prevented the MacBook from turning on as expected.<\/p>\n

Different from that, however, this time the MacBook is well turned on and booted to a completely dark screen due to some display issue.<\/p>\n

The situation may be rare, but we take it a good opportunity to share the potential logic board solutions\u00a0for MacBook No Display Repair.<\/p>\n

MacBook No Display Repair<\/p>\n

Disassembling<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Power button power up.<\/p>\n

The MacBook is booted to a completely dark screen.<\/p>\n

Yet keyboard backlights are on, which indicates that the MacBook is on with no screen display.<\/p>\n

Disassemble the MacBook.<\/p>\n

Disconnect flex cables<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and remove screws.<\/p>\n

Then detach the logic board\u00a0and remove the SSD and WiFi modules.<\/p>\n

Diagnosing<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Run a cosmetic inspection\u2014whether there are mildew, component missing or burnout on the logic board.\u00a0No particular damage.<\/p>\n

\"Run<\/p>\n

The test grounding resistance value of fuse F7700 with diode mode\u00a0and the value proves to be normal.<\/p>\n

Then connect AC adapter and test voltage value of fuse F7700, the displayed value is 8.58V\u2014normal value.<\/p>\n

Test grounding resistance value of logic board display port\u00a0pins\u00a0with diode mode.<\/p>\n

All display normal value.<\/p>\n

A test grounding resistance value of backlight resistors with diode mode. All display normal value.<\/p>\n

\"Test<\/p>\n

Connect AC adapter and test voltage values\u00a0of display chip U7701 and nearby components. BKL_SCL\u00a0displays abnormal voltage\u00a0value (3.3V under normal circumstances).<\/p>\n

\"Connect<\/p>\n

Roll out the maintenance bitmap and locate BKL_SCL.<\/p>\n

Confirm the corresponding resistor as R7753.<\/p>\n

Then roll out the circuit diagram.<\/p>\n

Analyzing the circuit network, we find that SCL is connected to pin D3 of U7701 via resistor R7753.<\/p>\n

Then we can infer\u00a0that U7701 might broke down.<\/p>\n

Riparazione<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Remove the sealing adhesive around display chip U7701.<\/p>\n

Take down display chip U7701 with the help of some BGA paste flux.<\/p>\n

\"Repairing<\/p>\n

Use a soldering iron to flat the bonding pad and then clean the bonding pad with PCB Cleaner.<\/p>\n

Apply some BGA paste flux to the bonding pad and align the new display chip with a hot air gun.<\/p>\n

Cool down the logic board with the ion fan.<\/p>\n

Connect AC adapter and test voltage values of display chip U7701 and nearby components.<\/p>\n

All display normal\u00a0value.<\/p>\n

Test<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Insert the SSD and WiFi modules\u00a0and assemble the MacBook.<\/p>\n

Power button power up, the screen displays normally. The fault\u00a0has been\u00a0cleared.<\/p>\n
