The cracked iPhone XS Max repair process
Defect Phenomenon
The phone was crushed by the car, and both the screen and back cover got seriously cracked.
The client almost throws it away, but finally still decides to have a try.
Disassemble the phone and check the parts and components inside, the battery also gets deformed, but luckily, the motherboard looks OK.
Change another screen to test, the phone can be booted, and the display, touch, camera, phone call, and Wi-Fi functions are also OK. What a miracle!
Then let’s remove the earpiece flex cable to the new screen to test the Face ID function.
After testing, it keeps reminding “move phone lower and move phone higher”. So we’ll need to fix the Face ID issue later.
Besides that, the battery also gets deformed seriously. So we also need to fix it.
Repair Process
For the battery, as it’s encrypted, if we change a 3rd party battery it will pop up an important message “Unable To Verify Genuine Battery Warning”. So we can just flat the battery physically with a bottle.
This is how the battery looks like after flatting. Just like a new battery, Lol 🙂
Then let’s swap the battery, front camera, and rear camera to a new back cover.
(for the battery, we can apply a new battery adhesive sticker)
After that, let’s fix the Face ID issue!
Connect the Face ID module with the JC PRO1000S Multi-Function Programmer to test, it reminds the dot projector is fused.
Then we need to take out the dot project cable with the face ID holding fixture and hot air gun.
Then remove the little board on the dot projector cable
Then remove the MOSFET chip and short the pads. This is the common reason for the Face ID function failure.
After that, solder back the little board to a new flex cable and test with the multi-functional programmer again.
The dot projector can be connected normally.
After that, apply XS Max Display Assembly Adhesive and assemble the phone to test. The Face ID function works normally, and the battery also works fine.
