iPhone 13 does not turn on repair
Defect Phenomenon
Water-damaged iPhone 13 won’t turn on.
Troubleshooting Process
First, disassemble the phone and check the motherboard, there is an obvious water damage sign on the motherboard.
Then connect the motherboard with a DC power supply, and use the tweezers to trigger and boot. There is a current leakage and the board cannot be booted.
So there must be something wrong with the motherboard, we need to put the motherboard on the heating platform and separate it.
Heating parameter setting
- Heating platform temperature: 170℃
- Hot air gun temperature: 320-340℃
After separating, let’s check the cosmetic of the motherboard under the microscope. There are some corrosive found.
Then connect the motherboard with the DC power supply machine and check under the thermal image camera, as we can see there is a small component gets extremely hot.
Repair Process
First, let’s deal with the corrosive part
Remove the corrosive chip with the hot air gun, solder paste, and tweezers
Then remove the short capacitor directly
(for the filter type capacitor, we can just remove it directly to avoid the possible damage to the PCB and surrounding components. If your soldering handwork is good enough, then you can also solder back a new one with the same specification)
After that, reball the chips and solder them back to the motherboard
The detailed soldering process refers REWA Academy handwork course
After soldering, clean the motherboard thoroughly with PCB cleaner, wiper clothes, and brush.
Then trigger with the DC power supply machine to test the booting process
Then boot current curve is normal, and the phone can be booted normally.
In the last step, let’s solder back the two layers of the motherboard and test the functions.
