Received a Macbook A1707 does not display when the screen angle is over 45°.
Model: Late 2016
Year: Mid 2017
Troubleshooting
The Macbook can display when the screen angle is less than 45°.
But when the screen angle is over 45°, no display issue will happen. Based on the repair experience, this is a common issue for this model, the flex cable is not long enough, and after using it for a long time, the flex cable is easy to get aging and worn damage.
The no display should be caused by the screen flex cable damage rather than the motherboard problem.

Repair Process
Since we have repaired this kind of similar issues many times, let’s replace the screen flex cable directly.
See the detailed working process as follows.
- First, disassemble the Macbook.
After separation we can see, except there is too much dust inside, the motherboard looks fine. Later before assembling, let’s clean it thoroughly.
- Remove the screws which are used for fixing the screen
- After removing the screen, let’s put it on the heating platform to heat and separate the flex cable
The process is a little bit complex and we need to be very careful and patient
- remove the logo plate first
- remove the screws under the flex cable one by one
- replace the flex cable under the microscope
- Clean the fust
As we mentioned, before assembling the MacBook, we need to clean the dust on the motherboard, and back cover, as well as the dust in the gaps.
- In the next step, let’s assemble the parts and fasten the screws
- Power on and test, the screen can display normally
In the last step, let’s stick the logo plate back to the position with the double-sided tape.
Keep using it for a few hours to test, and the MacBook still works fine.
The issue gets resolved by screen flex cable replacement.
