Case 1. Insert the SIM Card but no service
Issue Phenomenon: suddenly no service and cannot make phone calls during use.
Repair Process
- Test with another SIM card, the issue is still the same
- Disassemble the phone and check the cosmetic of the motherboard, it looks fine. There’s no deformation, water damage, parts missing, etc.
- By repair experience, normally the no service issue is caused by the Radio Frequency IC PAM1000 (AFEM-9066) with the problem. We can get it replaced with a new one first.
Heat with the hot air gun then remove the chip, then solder back a new one with the same specifications.
Repair Result
- Assemble the phone and test, all functions are OK. The signal is OK and can make phone calls normally. The issue gets fixed by the RF power amplifier IC replacement.
Case 2. Same issue! Insert the SIM Card but no service and cannot make phone calls
Issue Phenomenon: Client said the phone was drop damaged then no service and cannot make phone calls.
Repair Process
- Test with another SIM card, the issue still remains the same
- Take out the motherboard and check the cosmetics, the phone has been repaired by others before at the upper part, as we can see from the below picture. After checking, these parts are all OK.
- Most of the service issues are relative to the RF power IC U1007, so we just go to the chip directly. Heat with the hot air gun and remove it. After that, we can see there are some pads missing
- Fix the missing pads by jumping wire, then replace a new U1007 IC.
Repair Result
- Assemble the phone and test, the network service and phone call function back to normal. No service issue gets fixed by jumping wire and RF power IC U1007 replacement.
Summary
Two SAMSUNG note 8 no service issues are both caused by the RF power IC U1007, it’s a common fault chip for the signal issues. If there’s no clue about this kind of issue, we can start from this chip directly!
