SAMSUNG S10 Plus Repair Cases

Case 1.

Customer feedback: phone can not boot during normal use.

Connect with DC power supply, the current fix at 80mA. Tried to connect with the computer, but it’s reported the cellphone is in 9008 mode, which means the UFS cannot be recognized by the CPU.

9008

Disassemble the phone and take out the motherboard, it’s found the cellphone is refurbished, and the CPU and UFS chip also have been fixed before.

Since the phone report 9008 and boot current is stuck at 80mA, both defect phenomenon indicates it’s the UFS problem. So we can resolder the UFS chip to have a try, reball the chip then solder it back.

Reball the UFS chip

After that, assemble the phone and test, the phone can be booted normally.

Phone back to work

Case 2.

The phone cannot be charged, with an exclamation mark!

Receive the phone and test with the charger connected, it’s in a short status.

Troubleshooting and repair process

First, check the DOCK flex cable, there is a burning mark. Then disassemble the phone and replace a new dock to test, there is no short anymore, however, the charge current is 300mA only. Charge with PD fast charger, the measured voltage can reach 9 volts but the current is 0.00mA only.

Since the voltage can reach 9 volts, so the boost circuit part should be OK. Let’s test the DOCK function again, when connecting with the PC, only one side can be recognized, and not so stable, sometimes the USB connection cannot be recognized. So it should be the USB CC circuit with a problem.

Remove the shielding cover and test, find there is a short on the circled capacitor

Then apply with rosin and apply a DC power supply, the shorted component was found easily.

Replace it with a new one then test, the charge function back to normal.

From the above 2 SAMSUNG S10 Plus repair cases, we can see that the failure root cause can be diagnosed by the current value, report error code, and thermal detection method (rosin detection method).
